Defending champion Mike Hoffman defeated Gabe Roderick 246-196 to win the MAST event at Spartan Bowl in McFarland Sunday. Hoffman qualified third at 953, and averaged 241 through three matches en route to the win. This was Hoffman’s 22nd career title and fifth at Spartan Bowl; he is unofficially the second bowler with five MAST titles at one center, joining Jeff Richgels who captured five titles at Village Lanes.
Hoffman earned $443 for the win, with Roderick taking home $316 for second. The other match-play payouts Sunday were $214 for 3rd-4th and $165 for 5th-8th. MAST also paid one additional cash spot of $95, going to Peter Kortes (9th – 811). Hoffman also earned $115 from the Bet to Win pot.
Thirty-six bowlers competed on the Kegel Mercury oil pattern. The cut to match play after four games of qualifying was 815. Chris Pounders led qualifying at 961, earning him fifty bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. There were no honor counts posted Sunday.
The prize fund was bolstered by donations of $300 from tour co-sponsor Matt Maly and M & J Truck and Auto, and $100 from King Pin Management. MAST extends a huge Thank You to M & J Truck and Auto and King Pin Management for their generosity.
Our next stop will be a single-squad doubles event at Prairie Lanes in Sun Prairie on Sunday, December 10th. Qualifying begins at 11:30am, and the event will be contested on Prairie’s house pattern. We hope to see you all there.
