TJ Dunn and Willie Feltz defeated Brandon Biondo and Ryan Zagar 501-485 to win a high-scoring affair at the MAST split-squad doubles event at Middleton Sport Bowl on Saturday.
This marks Feltz’s first career MAST title, and Dunn’s second career title and second this season, having also won our opening event at Dream Lanes in September.
Dunn and Feltz earned $942 for the win, with Biondo and Zagar taking home $640 for second. The other match-play payouts Saturday were $374 for 3rd-4th and $254 for 5th-8th. MAST paid one additional cash spot Saturday for 9th place, with $144 going to Ron Wallenkamp and Kyle Geurtsen (1,893)
Dunn and Feltz qualified third at 1,945, and averaged team scores over 470 through three rounds of match play enroute to the win. Feltz was the high individual qualified Saturday at 1,060, earning him fifty bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race.
Biondo and Zagar qualified fourth at 1,938, and averaged 441 in their first two matches to reach the final. Zagar was seeking his fourth career MAST title and second this season.
Thirty-nine doubles teams competed on Sport Bowl’s house pattern. After eight games of qualifying, the cut to eighth place landed at 1,910, matching the mark set back in January 2007 for highest qualifying cut in this event.
Biondo shot 803 on games of 289, 244 and 270 to lead a flurry of six honor counts posted during the first qualifying squad. We also had 300 games from Nick Peterson, Kyle Johnicker, Chad Maas, Billy Foertsch, and Chris Pounders.
Tour co-sponsor Ten Pin Alley Pro Shop donated a Storm EquinoX bowling ball at cost, won by Chris Pounders. Host center Middleton Sport Bowl added three $15 gift cards, won by Nick Schroeder (x2) and Kevin Thompson. Total proceeds resulted in an additional $293 for this event’s prize fund. MAST extends a huge Thank You to Ten Pin Alley Pro Shop and Middleton Sport Bowl for their generosity.
Our next stop is a split-squad doubles event at Rock River Lanes in Fort Atkinson on Sunday, March 2nd. First squad starts at 11:00am, with the second squad starting at 2:00pm. That event will feature Survivor finals. The oil pattern for that event will be announced this week. Please visit MAST’s Facebook page to sign up. We hope to see you all there.
