Nick Wetzel defeated Nathan Michalowski 208-199 to win the MAST event at Viking Lanes in Stoughton Sunday. Wetzel qualified eighth at 948, then continued that pace averaging over 236 through four rounds of match play en route to the win, his first career MAST title.
Wetzel earned $705 for the win, with Michalowski taking home $396 for second. The other match play payouts Sunday were $253 for 3rd-4th, $192 for 5th-8th, and $131 for 9th-16th. MAST also paid out two additional cash spots, with $78 to Ray Schrubbe for 17th (927) and $74 to Tim Janz for 18th (922).
Seventy-three bowlers competed on Viking’s house shot. The cut after four games of qualifying was 928. Austin Sabroff led qualifying at 993, he earns twenty-five bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. Despite the higher scoring pace, there was only one honor count Sunday, with Glen Deutschendorf shooting 805 (247-279-279) over his first three qualifying games.
Deak’s Pub and Grill sponsored this event, adding $300 to the tournament prize fund. Tour co-sponsor Bob Holzbauer and Phoenix Pro Shop donated a DV8 Instigator bowling ball at cost, won by Jay Heinzelman. Host center Viking Lanes added four $10 gift cards, won by David Beres, Mike Hoffman, Tim Janz, and Todd Kjell. Combined proceeds resulted in $577 added to the prize fund for this event. MAST extends a huge Thank You to Deak’s Pub & Grill, Phoenix Pro Shop, and Viking Lanes for their generosity.
