MAST opened its 2021-2022 season at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes in Madison Saturday, with Trevor Habich defeating Jeff Prein 237-224 in the final match to earn his first career MAST title.
Habich qualified fourth at 989, and averaged 232 in match play en route to the win. Prein finished the qualifying round with a 300 game to climb to sixth at 964, and averaged 258 in his first two matches to make the final, where he was bidding for his ninth career title.
Habich earned $420 for the win, with Prein taking home $303 for second. The other match-play payouts Saturday were $198 for 3rd-4th and $157 for 5th-8th. MAST also paid an additional cash spot of $90 going to Kevin Thompson (936). Habich also earned $40 from the Bet To Win pot.
Thirty-five bowlers turned out Saturday to compete on Bowl-A-Vard’s house shot. The qualifying cut to the top eight was 944. Defending champion Jay Heinzelman led qualifying at 1078 including the day’s other 300 game in his third qualifying game, he earns twenty-five bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. Dakota Wiltrout had a near-miss closing out his qualifying round with a 299 game to climb to the seventh spot at 962.
MAST added $300 to the prize fund for this event. Tour co-sponsor Bob Holzbauer and Phoenix Pro Shops donated a Storm Incite bowling ball at cost, won by Danny Verdecchia. Host center Bowl-A-Vard added three $10 gift cards, won by Heinzelman and Todd Gille (x2). Total proceeds resulted in $400 added to the tournament’s prize fund.
