Tony Oliva defeated Derek Eoff 258-209 to win the MAST event at Prairie Lanes Saturday. Oliva qualified seventh at 957, then averaged over 270 through three rounds of match play including a 300 game en route to the victory.
This was Oliva’s seventh career MAST title. Eoff was seeking his second straight title and fifteenth overall after winning at Bowl-A-Vard last month.
Oliva earned $432 for the win, with Eoff taking home $295 for second. The other match play payouts Saturday were $199 for 3rd-4th and $154 for 5th-8th. Oliva also earned $80 from the Bet to Win pot.
Thirty-two bowlers competed on Prairie’s house pattern. The cut after four games of qualifying was 955. Chris Jackson finished his qualifying round with a 299 game to climb from ninth to first at 1,011, he earns an additional twenty-five points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race for leading qualifying. Oliva’s 300 game was one of two honor counts posted Saturday, the other coming from Danny Verdecchia with a 300 game to open qualifying.
Tour co-sponsor Matt Maly and M & J Truck and Auto added $300 to the prize fund for this event. Tour co-sponsor Bob Holzbauer and Phoenix Pro Shop donated a Motiv Sky Raptor bowling ball at cost, won by Matt Gannon. Host center Prairie Lanes added three $10 gift cards, won by Gannon, Brent Ritchie, and Kevin Thompson. Total proceeds resulted in $430 added to the tournament prize fund.
