Pierson & Beres win Lake Ripley Doubles

Chris Pierson and David Beres teamed up to win the MAST Doubles event at Lake Ripley Lanes in Cambridge Saturday. The duo led qualifying with an eight-game total of 1890, and completed their run with an exciting 549-500 victory over the eighth-seeded team of Jacob Boresch and Andy Mills, in a title match highlighted by Pierson’s 300 game and featuring great bowling by all four finalists. Pierson and Beres took home a combined $966 for their win, with Boresch and Mills claiming $510 for second.

The other qualifying payouts were $352 for 3rd-4th and $242 for 5th-8th. MAST also paid out the ninth qualifying spot; the teams of Chris Jackson/Tony Thaden and Chris Pounders/Jermey Wolfe tied for the extra cash spot at 1773 and both teams received $134.

With 37 teams competing on Lake Ripley’s house pattern, it took a qualifying score of 1781 for eight games to advance into the survivor match play. Beres was the high individual qualifier at 1027 for four games and will receive an additional 25 bonus points in the M&J Points Race.

The tournament featured two honor counts: Pierson’s 300 in the title match, and a 300 game by Chris Hoefs to open the first qualifying shift.

Badger Pro Shop donated a Brunswick Nirvana bowling ball at cost, which was won by Mike Hoffman. The host center Lake Ripley Lanes along with Frank Liquor added several prizes, including a Jaeger Weber portable grill won by Lauren Viney, Jaeger dual outdoor folding chairs won by Andy Punzel, and three gift cards won by Kevin Thompson, Shawn Taliaferro and Scott Lyons. Thanks to Badger Pro Shop, Lake Ripley Lanes and Frank Liquor for the donated items, which added $250 to the tournament’s prize fund.
