In a closely-contested battle of the day’s top two teams, Chris Gibbons and Matt Mysliwiec defeated Dave Beres and Chad Maas 416-411 to win the Survivor finals of the MAST split-squad doubles event at Middleton Sport Bowl Saturday. This was the second doubles title this season for the duo, who also won at Lake Ripley Lanes in Cambridge in October, and this also marked Gibbons’ tenth career MAST title.

Gibbons and Mysliwiec qualified second at 2,023, highlighted by Gibbons’ 824 set (289-277-258) in the morning qualifying squad. Beres and Maas earned the top seed in Survivor play at 2,057 with a pair of 1,000+ qualifying rounds, including matching 300 games in their respective opening qualifying games.

Gibbons & Mysliwiec earned $926 for the win, with Beres & Maas taking home $628 for second. The other Survivor-round payouts Saturday were $366 for 3rd-4th and $248 for 5th-8th. MAST also paid one additional cash spot of $140 going to Trevor Habich and Shaun Taliaferro (1,885). Gibbons & Mysliwiec also earned $120 from the Bet To Win pot.

Thirty-seven teams competed on Sport Bowl’s house shot. The cut after eight games of qualifying was 1,897. Gibbons was the high individual qualifier Saturday at 1,059, earning him twenty-five bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. In addition to the three honor counts from the top two teams, Robert Murray and Devon Boeck also posted 300 games during their qualifying rounds.

Tour co-sponsor Bob Holzbauer and Phoenix Pro Shop donated a Motiv Trident Odyssey bowling ball at cost, won by Chris Jackson. Host center Middleton Sport Bowl added three $10 gift cards, won by Jim Hellenbrand and Justin Pounders (x2). Combined proceeds resulted in an additional $385 in the tournament’s prize fund. MAST extends a huge Thank You to Phoenix Pro Shop and Middleton Sport Bowl for their generosity.
