Devon Boeck defeated Rick Erce 265-216 to win the Survivor finals of the MAST event at Viking Lanes in Stoughton Saturday.

Boeck qualified second at 1,005, including a 289 finish to climb from seventh place to earn a first-round bye, then averaged 263 through the final three rounds of Survivor play for the win. Erce also earned a bye with 992 to qualify third, and was the cut number in both the quarterfinal (220) and semifinal rounds (249) to make the final.

Both bowlers were seeking their first career MAST title. This was Boeck’s second final of the season, having finished runner-up at Ten Pin Alley back in November.

Boeck earned $421 for the victory, with Erce taking home $298 for second. The other match play payouts Saturday were $178 for 3rd-4th, $145 for 5th-8th, and $112 for 9th-12th.

Forty-two bowlers competed on Viking’s house shot. The qualifying cut after four games was 927. Kevin Punzel led qualifying at 1,042, earning him twenty-five bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. Despite the relatively-high scoring pace, there were no honor counts Saturday; Tony Oliva provided the only near-miss with a 298 game in the opening round of Survivor play.

Tour co-sponsor Bob Holzbauer and Phoenix Pro Shop donated a Storm Nova bowling ball at cost, won by Chris Pounders. Host center Viking Lanes provided a $125 entry in their annual 8-Pin Tap Tournament, won by Joe Eith, and also added three $10 gift cards which were won by Jason French, Tim Gille and Kevin Punzel. Total proceeds resulted in an additional $382 in the prize fund for this event. MAST extends a huge Thank You to Phoenix Pro Shop and Viking Lanes for their generosity.
