Beres, Maas Win Second Doubles Title Of Season

Dave Beres and Chad Maas defeated Dan Steimle and Brent Ritchie 470-453 to win the MAST doubles event at Schwoegler’s Entertainment Center in Madison Sunday. This marks the eighth career MAST title for Beres and the fifth for Maas, and was the second title for the duo this season after having won at Lake Ripley Lanes back in October.

Beres and Maas led qualifying at 1,801, and posted match-play victories of 374-344 over Tim Gille & Casey Gibney and 464-385 over Evan Dietzen and Troy Wurn to reach the title match. Steimle and Ritchie shot 500 in their fourth team qualifying game to climb from twelfth to seventh, and had match wins of 393-365 over Matt Krueger & Chris Jackson and 457-416 over Chris Pounders & Derek Eoff to make the finals.

Beres and Maas earned $638 for the win, with Steimle and Ritchie taking home $424 for second. The other match-play payouts Sunday were $258 for 3rd-4th and $188 for 5th-8th. Beres and Maas also claimed $130 from the Bet to Win pot.

Twenty-four doubles teams competed on the 2023 USBC Open Championships Team pattern. The cut after four team games of qualifying was 1,637. Matt Krueger was the high individual qualifier at 964, earning him fifty bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. There were no honor counts posted during the day Sunday.

King Pin Management donated $100 to the prize fund for this event. Tour co-sponsor Bill Pounders & Ten Pin Alley Pro Shop donated a Storm Absolute Power bowling ball at cost, won by Chris Pounders. Host center Schwoegler’s added three $10 gift cards, won by Pounders, Matt Pursell and Mark Newkirk. Total proceeds resulted in an additional $278 to the tournament prize fund. Our next tournament is the split-squad doubles event at Middleton Sport Bowl on Saturday, February 10th.
