Derek Eoff and Kyle Geurtsen defeated Chad Maas and Dave Beres 402-381 to win the MAST doubles event at Rock River Lanes in Fort Atkinson Sunday.
This marks the first career title for Geurtsen, and the seventeenth career title and second this season for Eoff, who previously teamed with Chris Pounders to win the doubles event at Middleton Sport Bowl last month.
Eoff and Geurtsen qualified third at 1,708, and survived a close and low-scoring opening match 364-351 against Adam Quella and Casey Gibney on their path to the title match. Maas and Beres led qualifying at 1,846, and outlasted Pat DelFiacco and Brenden Sramek 491-478 in their semifinal match to reach the finals.
Eoff and Geurtsen earned $612 for the win, with Maas and Beres taking home $408 for second. The other match play payouts Sunday were $248 for 3rd-4th and $180 for 5th-8th. Eoff and Geurtsen also claimed $200 from the Bet to Win pot.
Twenty doubles teams competed on the 39-foot Don Carter oil pattern. The cut after eight games of qualifying was 1,632. Beres was the high individual qualifier at 986 including a 299 in his third qualifying game, earning him fifty bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race. There were no honor counts posted during the day Sunday.
Tour co-sponsor M & J Truck and Auto added $500 to the prize fund for this event, some of which covered additional entry fees to get the payout cut to eight teams. Tour co-sponsor Ten Pin Alley Pro Shop donated a Roto Grip Attention Star bowling ball at cost, won by Don Benner. Host center Rock River Lanes added three $10 gift cards won by Derek Guerra, Austin Powers and Mark Newkirk. MAST extends a huge Thank You to M & J Truck and Auto, Ten Pin Alley Pro Shop, and Rock River Lanes for their generosity.
Our final regular event of the 2023-2024 season will be at Leisure Lanes in Monroe on Sunday, March 17th at 11:30am. This will be a Singles event on Leisure’s house shot, and will feature Survivor finals. We hope to see you all there.
