Cody Roedner and Jason French defeated Jay Heinzelman and Dan Swenson 447-403 to win the MAST Doubles tournament at Schwoegler’s Entertainment Center in Madison Saturday, capping off an event in which the lower-seeded teams won every match. Roedner and French finished the qualifying round at 1,828 to earn the eighth & final seed in match play, while Heinzelman and Swenson qualified seventh at 1,833.
This was French’s first career MAST title and Roedner’s fourth. Roedner came in as co-defending champion for this event, having partnered with Corey Schmidt to win at Schwoegler’s during our last visit in September 2019.
Roedner and French earned $806 for the win, with Heinzelman and Swenson taking home $550 for second. The other match play payouts Saturday were $318 for 3rd-4th and $236 for 5th-8th.
Thirty-one teams competed on the forty-four foot “Aspen” oil pattern designed by Nate Sime. Chad Maas and Dave Beres led qualifying at 1,912. Derek Eoff was the high individual qualifier with a 1,046 set, which included the day’s only honor count with 300 in game three and a near-miss with 299 to open the round; Eoff earns twenty-five bonus points in the M & J Truck and Auto Points Race for his effort.
Tour co-sponsor Bob Holzbauer and Phoenix Pro Shop donated a Storm Phaze 4 bowling ball at cost, won by Mike Schmitt. Host center Schwoegler’s added four $10 gift cards, won by Billy Foertsch, Trevor Habich, Dylon Wilde, and Mark Newkirk. Total proceeds resulted in $397 added to the tournament’s prize fund. MAST extends a huge Thank You to Phoenix Pro Shop and Schwoegler’s for their generosity.
Our next event will be Saturday, February 19th at 11:30am at Viking Lanes in Stoughton. That singles event will be contested on Viking’s house shot and will be Survivor finals. We hope to see you all there.
