Robert Vater defeated Jason Becher 220-197 to win his first career MAST title as the 2026-2027 season kicked off at Prairie Lanes in Sun Prairie Sunday.
Vater qualified fifteenth at 840, then averaged almost 230 through four rounds of match play en route to the win. Becher qualified fourth at 908 and averaged over 237 through his first three matches to reach the final.
Vater earned $697 for the win, with Becher taking home $398 for second. The other match play payouts Sunday were $249 for 3rd-4th, $166 for 5th-8th, and $133 for 9th-16th. Vater also claimed $105 from the Bet to Win pot.
Fifty-eight bowlers competed on Prairie’s house shot. Jim Ring led qualifying at 997, earning him fifty bonus points in the Pabst Points Race. There were no honor counts posted Sunday; Aaron Turner had the only close call with a 299 game to open match play.
